Pack meetings are a time for all scouts in our pack to come together and interact with one another as a group. Pack meetings take place once a month. They are generally 45 minutes long and consist of a themed activity for the scouts, a discussion about upcoming projects and events, and other relevant information for families.
Den meetings happen more frequently, usually weekly or bi-weekly. This is a time for the scouts to gather with their grade level to work on activities that will help them accomplish the next rank. The meetings are typically shorter than pack meetings.
Pack 157 welcomes ALL children in Kindergarten - 5th grade. We are an active family-led pack with boys and girls in each den. Boys and girls participate in the same activities and receive all of the same ranks and recognitions.
Pack 157 is a family-focused Cub Scout pack. We ask that parents attend all pack meetings and den meetings. This not only helps parents be more involved in their child's scouting career, but it also helps the scouts stay on task and avoid distraction.
We understand that families are busy. The beauty of Cub Scouts is that the commitment can be as large or small as you'd like it to be. We recommend attending as many pack and den meetings as you can, the Pinewood Derby, and at least one event at Camp La-No-Che. There will be several optional events and activities available throughout the year.
We recommend purchasing your scout uniform from the Central Florida Scout Shop in Apopka. The address is: 1951 S Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL. The associates there can help guide you to making the correct purchase. Alternatively, some scouting gear is available at Travel Country Outfitters in Altamonte Springs. All uniforms and accessories can also be purchased online at Scoutshop.org.
There are several opportunities for family camping throughout the year at our local Boy Scout facility, Camp La-No-Che. Camping is optional and you'll discover that some families in our pack camp more often than others. Cub Halloween is typically our pack's biggest camping event of the year. We encourage you to talk with other members of your den to see who plans to attend.
Pack 157's leadership team is comprised entirely of parent volunteers. We need participation from our families in order to keep us in operation. There will be opportunities throughout the year to volunteer for various activities and events. We are also looking for skilled volunteers to help the pack run smoothly behind the scenes. Please contact our Cubmaster (Jaime Counce) if you'd like to learn more about becoming a leader or volunteering for our pack.
When you hear Pack leaders talk about YPT they are talking about Scouting America's Youth Protection Training program. Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered adult volunteers and it must be renewed every two years. It is part of a strict list of BSA requirements and guidelines designed to keep youth safe. YPT is available for anyone to take. We encourage our parents to take the course, even if they are not an official BSA volunteer.
BSA Youth Protection Mission Statement: "True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting. It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within the Boy Scouts of America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, territory, area, council, district, and unit levels."
